Puzzling Passats

Puzzling Passats
I’ve recently been interested in purchasing a used Passat. Considering a 2009. My mechanic advised me to make sure the timing chain tensioner has been replaced and that this motor is notorious for oil consumption. Should I be looking at the 2.5L?
I heard that these are great cars and I don’t want to buy any problems, I’ve got an old X 5 to keep my mechanic happy.
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

It depends on the engine code and whether its 2.5 5 cylinder or 6 cylinder V6.
e.g.
Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 01/2011-07/2017, Model: Passat/4Motion/Variant, Engine Code: CBUA, 125Kw, 170PS, 2.5 Ltr, 5 Cyls, Remarks: SRE Bosch Motronic ME 7.1.1 or 17.5, Indirect Injection
Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 01/2003-05/2005, Model: Passat/4Motion/Variant, Engine Code: BAU, 132Kw, 179PS, 2.5 Ltr, 6 Cyls, Remarks: Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) V6 Timing belt.

As you can tell I’m a little ignorant on passats. Could you tell me if the 2012 2.5 auto clicker word unscrambler has timing chain tensioner issues? Or anything to be concerned with at just over 100,000 miles.
