Default Secondary Air Injection Woes

Hello,

I have a 97 Golf III with 2.0 and 144K on the dial. The problem is that secondary air injection pump does not work at all. I have done the following:

- Checked to see if the motor runs with a 12v source, it runs great, spools up real nice an blows lots of air.

- Checked the 12v relay, with a 12v source it clicks good closing the contacts for the 12v flow to the pump.

- Checked the wiring from the relay to the pump, good continuity.

- Check the ground side of the relay, good continuity.

When the vehicle is started when cold it will immediatly blow the 30 amp fuse next to the 12V fan relay. Everything seems like it should work. What could it be that is blowing the fuse? Do you think the relay is shorting somehow when energized?

I have not seen this problem on any forum and I am completely baffled. I really need some expert advise.

Thanks for any input.

John

Default RE: Secondary Air Injection Woes

I heard it was a 50 amp fuse for the system, not 30. Mine is still messed up, I am going to try to delete the whole system.
