Idles great then dies
Hi - new to the forum (and pretty mechanically clueless) so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
I have a 2001 Cabrio with under 50Kmiles. Its been stored about 45 miiles from my home for about 8 weeks, until yesterday. When I went to retrieve it, the battery was dead so I jumped it and it started right up. Drove without issue until I got it home. I turned it off and then tried to turn it back on to make sure the battery was charged.
Again, it started ok and idles ok, but as soon as you touch the accelerator it sputters, shakes, and dies. My local mech (not a VW dealer) tells me I need a new throttle body.
I did a little research here and I see similar notes about remaping the ECU and "relearning". Is this something I need to have done at VW? Can I really need a new throttle body? <not cheap!> How do I tell?
Thanks for any advice.
