Default 00' Beetle Problems

Hey, I am kind of new to the VW forums. I spend most of my time in the Subaru forums, boxer power! I have a 71' Super Beetle waiting for an engine rebuild to be done by myself. My friend was having issues with her 2000 Beetle. She had a couple of CEL's, one saying that the #2 O2 sensor was bad. So I replaced the one right after the cat, but the CEL didn't go off. I was wondering if it is supposed to go off automatically right away, if there is a wait time for it to go off (like an ecu cycler or something), or does it have to be cleared? I tried clearing it by just leaving the battery disconnected for 15 minutes. This didn't seem to work, because as soon as I turned the car on again, the light just stayed on. I would have assumed that it would have gone off and came back on a little later if I had really reset the registry. Any opinions? Thanks for the help in advance,
Tom

Hey. I don't know if this is still a problem but try leaving the battery disconnected all night. I found that disconnecting for only a few minutes doesn't clear everything.

make sure that your reading the code right it could be telling you there is something wrong with the emmissions not neceserly the O2 can also try to check if your getting current to the O2
