Hello all, new to the forum, and trying to help my mom out with her Beetle.

First, it's a 1978 fuel-injected Super Beetle that's recently been through the works at her mechanic's; all the wiring has been replaced, fuel lines checked, etc.

When the car is cold-started, it runs fine for approximately 30 seconds, then it shuts off, like it's not getting any fuel. The mechanic isns't sure if it's the fuel pump or the relay box? underneath the back seat on the driver's side. Apparently the wiring going to the relay box suffered some sort of burn damage, but was all replaced, and there wasn't any apparent damage to that relay box. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Change your fuel filter.

 

reputable repair shops dont tell you they are unsure what the problem is! they tell you this is whats wrong and it will costt $$ to fix it . i would try runnign the fuel into a empty gas caan . to see if the pump continues to run after 30 seconds. you could also hook the fuel line to a pressure guage and see what psi fuel presure is and if it continues to be steady after 30 seconds. the fuel pump could just be weak and unable to deliver the proper psi to continue. if fuel pump shuts off after thirty seconds change your relay if there was fire/ heat damage the relay might be weak. heat could have come froma short that caused wiring to heat up. good luck repost with the good news what was wrong when you find it .
