T4 2.5 TDI Turbo/Power Problem
Hi,
I have a problem with my T4 2.5TDI. My vehicle in general operates as normal but when driving along a motorway after some time the power reduces and I can no longer maintain speed up hills. This is either a turbo or power system control problem. I can re-establish full engine power if I cut the ignition momentarily while rolling.
I have taken my T4 three times to my local VW garage but they cannot identify the problem. The last time they suggested that the only solution would be to replace the turbo -an expensive solution. However I'm not convinced it is solely a turbo problem as if turning on and off the ignition resolves the problem, temporarily, then surely it is electrical related.
Any ideas? Any one who has come across the same problem?

RE: T4 2.5TDI Turbo/Power Problem
I have the same problem with my 01, 1.9 TDI Jetta. I have replaced 2 mass air flow sensors only to have the no power problem to return. One dealership mechanic said around 160,000 miles the waste gate arm can stick. At a Volkswagen parts place they want you to buy the whole turbo. But I have found a website that makes the arm to specifications and it only cost $195.00, www.piersdiesel.com. I have not purchased it yet because I am not convinced if that is the problem. Why can't any mechanics agree on the problems with the turbo diesels? Let me know if this helped or if you have found out what to do. Good luck.

It's not the turbo!
Hi guys, there is nothing wrong with your turbo's!
The problem is that sometimes the turbo's boost/output are ajusted just a little to high!
This means, that under perfect turbo conditions, the boost-peek will be just a little to high for your ECU'S. The ECU will switch to "limp-home" mode.
This Ecu will go back to normal mode after some minuts if the boost is not peeking! . You can also turn off and on the ignition to make the limp mode go away.
THE FIX:
If this is the problem on your car, VW will be able to reed all the limp-errors and delide them.
You can fix this by ajusting the axuator on the turbo, take away a little of the spring tension./boostpressure. it is very senitive, do one turn on the axuator at the time maximum!
If this is not your problem, tjeck the boostpressure regulator!
I hope this can help you guys!
Morten.

Turbo cutting out
I have this too on a 2005 T5 1.9 transporter.
The VW main dealer had to test drive it a few times as it is intermittent, but said it was the turbo boost to high and the whole turbo would need replacing at a cost of £1100 for the Turbo and £300 fitting.
The van has only done 41000 miles. OUCH!
Why don't VW try adjusting the turbo actuator?
Does anyone know where it is so I can have a go?
Thanks
Martin

turbo problem
hi,
i have a 03 t5 130bhp tdi van imported to nz from the uk. 76000 miles on the clock and today while overtaking the turbo cut out, this is the second time this has happened both while overaking, the revs were not very high both times when it cut out. then the revs will not go above 2000 rpm. turning off the engine resets the problem.
i took it to a vw agent here and they said the turbo should be replaced or get the turbo de-coked by a sandblasting specialist.both expensive, does this seem right or is this also the turbo acuator needing adjustment?
cheers kiwi martin.
