Question V6 TDI slow engine crank speed

I have a 2006 Touareg V6 TDI that over the last several years cranks very slow when starting. Also the electric tailgate opens slowly. Changed batteries as I thought that may be the problem but it continues. If you put the charger on the battery it improves for several starts then goes back to slow. If on the 1st crank it does not start, by turning the key off then on again it is much better and will start more quickly. I have heard somewhere that the glow plug time may be too short ie. only around 1 second. If you turn the key on then off 3 times it starts OK. My Euro Car serviceman tells me it should have a AGM battery used for the latest stop start cars. All the battery suppliers say that is not correct. Has anyone had experience with this problem and what is the solution.

Default Welcome to Volkswagen Forum - Rules & Recommendations

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.
