Hello

I have some questions on a 03 passat.

1) the book says to use 5w-40 oil but the cap reads 5w-30. I am not sure which one to use. I live in PA

2) the trim around the windows, the stuff that looks like chrome. I am trying to clean it using chrome polish, blue magic and also a fine steel wool but it does come clean. it looks like there are water spots on the trim, but it doesn't come clean. any suggestions?

3) in the trunk, in the compartment with the green symbol which looks like a first aid sign. what is the purpose of this compartment. also there is what looks like a connector on a wire. can you tell me what this is used for. maybe a CD changer?

You can use either weight of motor oil. I would recommend switching to either Castrol Syntech 5-40w if you can find it or Royal Purple. Right now I am running Castrol after installing a new engine and use Royal Purple in all my vehicles. Volkswagens actually uses the Castrol 5-40w. As for the fake chrome around the windows I wouldn't use chrome polish because it's not really chrome. Just get some Mother's or Megiure's cleaner wax and then get some caranuba wax to put on it. Wash the car at night when it's cool or in a shaded area when the car is cool. then do the wax after the wash. the purpose of the first aid kit in the trunk is to have a first aid kit in the compartment. You can get this online or frome the dealer. You would be surprised at the amount of nice stuff in this kit. as for the connector it could most likly be for a cd changer but can't say for sure.
