Default What to clean headlights with?

I know there may be a lot of info out on the web already but my question is not what to use. Im down to either Pam cooking spray or toothpaste, or some rubbing compound if i find some.

My question is either better for plastic and/or glass headlights. And which one does my car have, plastic or glass?

I have a 2003 1.8t Wolfsburg. Im pretty sure they are plastic as ive tapped on them and they feel like plastic, I just want to make sure.

And Ive heard it may not be good to use toothpaste unless the headlights are very oxidized. And mine aren't...yet. But I don't want to wait until they are really bad, so is it ok to use the toothpaste even if my headlights are only partially oxidized?

Thanks in advance.
