Default Start the engine and RPM's skyrocket

Whenever I start my 99.5 Jetta 2.0L the rpms sky rocket to right around 3k-4k then slowly work their way down to about 2k and hang out there till i start driving then go back down to somewhat normal... Anyone have any ideas... And whats the normal idling for a 99.5 Jetta 2.0L 5 speed...

My mazda mx-6 did that when i put a cold air intake in and forgot to plug the MAF sensor back in. Is your MAF sensor hooked up and working properly?
