Oil Questions
I just bought a 1998 Jetta GLS with 102,468 miles on it, and I was wondering what are some of the better types of oil that you would recommend for them. I was thinking either Rotella, or a synthetic brand. Also what type of oil filters would you suggest? Thank you for your responses.
If the car has synthetic in it, stick with a synthetic oil, they last longer and handle the abuse better.
If the car has been run with conventional oil for 100,000 miles I would not suggest changing to synthetic.
Just confirm you have a 2.0 liter gas engine in your car.
Does your car burn oil?
And where do you live? The heat of Arizona or the tundra on Minnesota?
Your answer could be anywhere between 5W30 and 10W40 depending on the above conditions.
For a car in good condition and treated well the grade of oil should not change over the life of the car.
