Default lock Problems

I guys I don't know if I have a malfunction in my vehicle but when I turn off the car and get out walk all the way to the other side to let my little girl out the doors happens to be locked so I have to walk back to me side to unlock the door because I usually leave my keys in my car when it is in the garage, now I can't remember if it always did this but aren't the doors suppose to unlock when the ignition is turned off? I have a 2004 Jetta TDI

Yeah it's all good but I hate it sometime I have to get something from the passenger side and it's locked so I have to walk all the way over to the driver side to unlock it, it sucks. I ordered a Vag-com cable to see if I can reprogram it but the damn cable don't work.
