Default a little help w/sons car

Hello all!

I was thinking this would be the place for some help. My sons car is an 01 jetta w/6cyl engine. We bought the car used about a year ago and the head light covers are fogged and dull. We used some plastic cleaner on them which did help, but not enough. I just called the local VW dealer and parts guysaid they want 225.00 a piece.

1. where is a good after market place to buy these lights?
2. the parts guy said that detailers can sometimes use a cleaner and get the light covers clear again....anyone know of this?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

hmmm, i found a website that told you exactly how to clean them, i can't remember where it was but i can check around. I know you were supposed to use some sand paper, start at a lower grit and work your way up. i think you were to start around 800 grit and work upto 1200. and it also said something about taking the cover off and cleaning the inside of it the same way... i'll look for the site it was on a mx-6 forum if you want to search around also....

Had the same thing happen on a Ford, %*^^ those plastic lights anyway. I used 800 grit wet sand paper, had the garden hose on slightly to keep the light lense wet while
I sanded, after I got it clean then it was gray and scratched looking. then I used 1500 grit wet sand paper and
did the same thing again, it was gray but not as scratched
looking. I then went to 2000 grit wet sand paper and did the same again. it was gray and still smoother, Then I used
a small buffer and polish compound and buffet it out, then
I buffed it again with Miguars ( not sure of the spelling )
swirl remover and to my suprise they looked new again. To
keep it from happing again, when I wash the car I use
Lemon Pledge on the lights and every thing plastic, just
spray a small amount ( a little goes a long way ) and rub
it in untill it's all gone. It works great on plastic all over the
car, and it will clean glass great, but don't use it where the
windshield wipers wipe, use glass cleaner in that area.

Hi

I found several aftermarket complete headlight replacements on Ebay, most run about 100$ US for a complete set of (2) headlamp assemblies and some include bulbs with fog lights. I'm looking at a set for my '03 Jetta. Hope this helps.
