Jetta Wagon Rear Door/Hatch Door Locks

Jetta Wagon Rear Door/Hatch Door Locks
I have a few things I am not sure about my 2002 Jetta wagon and its rear hatch:
1. Is it normal that, while the engine is running, as soon as you open the rear hatch all the doors lock. If this is normal, can this be changed through VAGCOM programming?
2. If I use the hatch open/trunk button in the drivers door, I can hear the servo motor move the latch, but the hatch goes into that "half open" state...you know, when it is not tightly closed and the door ajar light is on but won't open. But if I press the rubber thing under the handle, it does nothing. It does the same thing if you press the hatch/trunk release on the remote. However, since you can press the remote button and be at the rear of the car, if I press the remote hatch/trunk release and pull up on the hatch at the same time, it will open.
Is the hatch supposed to actually "pop" into the open position when you use these buttons? Maybe there is not enough tension to pull the door up?
Or is it an electronic issue because the manual says that if you use the driver door release button, you have 2 mins to open the rear hatch. If the hatch actually popped open, how would that work?
Last thing to know: if the doors are unlocked, the hatch opens fine.
