Same ole problem VW has had for years even with the
beetle sense 1988, The reverse gear isn't adjusted on the
shaft correct, after a period of time it startes jumping
out of gear when you try to back up. The best fix is a total
tranny rebuild, and adjust the reverse gear to get more
bite, or replace with a good used tranny. What most people
do is hold the gear shift in reverse while backing.

does it make a funny clicking noise to? mine has been making that noise for about a year everywhere i take it to says thats the normal sound of a manual in reverse but i've never heard a noise like that from a car in reverse,and in about the last month the car has been poping out of revers to

Mine reverse is pretty much gone. The dealership said that they can adjust the reverse, but if the gear is stripped which will have put metal flakes all over, then they have to rebuild it, or get new gears. I'm taking it in to tranny shop so I guess I'll know the damages then.
