Default 2004 Jetta 2.0 Gas, broke timing belt

I have a 2004 Jetta 2.0 with 157K miles on it....the car was idling in the driveway, made a funny sound, then stopped. I believe very strongly that the timing belt broke. My question is, "is the 2.0 liter gas engine in my 04 jetta an interference, or a non-interference engine?".

Also, if it is interference, is there a way to tell if the valves were bent? Perhaps replace the timing belt and check the compresion?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, try swapping the timing belt and then check the compression. But, if that happened, i can guarantee you have a bent valve.

Does anyone have a DIY link for replacing the timing belt on a 2004 Jetta, with 2.0 gas engine?

Thanks in advance!
