Default 2001 buzzes when dash lights are turned on.

Just bought a 2001 Jetta that loves to beep when you turn on the dash lights at any time. I don't have an owners manual so the question is:
Is the beeping trying to tell me something or do I have an electrical problem?

It sounds like when you leave the lights on after turning off the engine and exiting from other cars.

Thanks for any and all help.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

There is no CEL on. I figured it out when I noticed the light in the drivers side door was a lot dimmer than the passenger side. Someone pulled it up in behind the door panel so you wouldn't notice it always on. That leads you straight to the door switch. That can be verified by the overhead lights will not shut off normally if set to the door position. The switch was in the always off mode. I went in and cleaned the switch this time. If it does it again I'll replace the whole assembly, $200.00 and no one had them in stock locally.
