Default 2000 Jetta questions

Well i bought a 2000 jetta about a month ago as my first car. I love the look and feel of VW so i chose it. Its a very nice car and everything runs fairly well for its age but i have two problems. 1. I dont know what jetta i have because the trunk was replaced and does not even say Jetta on the back. Where else is the info located? 2. I feel that the gear changes are rather jerky. I have driven lots of cars and ive never felt this before. Its like when it changes it stops for half a second then jerks forward annoyingly. The opposite happens when slowing down, when it downshifts i feel somewhat of a force against me and the car slows down a lot more then it should.

What could this be???

its an automatic btw.

To get the model of your Jetta, go to Carfax.com and enter your VIN. It will tell you what model it is. I also have a 2000 Jetta automatic, and it shifts really hard as well. It has lifetime oil in the transmission that is $30 per litre, so if it shifts decent, leave it alone.
