2000 Jetta GLS 2.0 air pump code
I have a 2000 Jetta GLS 2.0 5sp that has a check engine light. The scanner at the parts store indicated air pump. The VW dealer said $800 to repair. My question is does the pump always have to be replaced? Is there a common circuit that could be triggering the light. Could the air pump have a loose hose or some other problem that doesn't necessarily mean replace? How hard is it to do yourself?
Thanks for your help,
Dale

RE: 2000 Jetta GLS 2.0 air pump code
the same thing happend to my car. what happend was is thare is a sensor thing on the right sid of the moter (follow the large air tube off the pump). the tubes come loose on those things and what happend was i got water in thare an it gumed up the sensor. what i did is i puled the the tube and sprayed a water evaperator in the sensor and tube (somthing without a lubrication property to it, just ask the guy at the auto part store and he will help you). let it air out and dont use compesed air, im not sure how stong that sensor is.
now im not saying thats what happend with your car but thats what happend with mine and it might save you $798.01
edit: o ya in case you dident alredy know you will have to delete the code after you are done.
