1999 Jetta - Good/Bad Buy?
I just recently purchased a 1999 VW Jetta GLS (2.0 4 Cyl) for $5,500. It has the leather seats/steering wheel/gear changer, front driver/passenger heated seats, power sunroof, jet heated front windshield wipers, and front & rear mud flaps.
Car has a total of 84,400 miles and was owned by a rich daddy's girl who took it in every month for detailing and service until she got into a front end collision, primarily on the right side. Radiator and a few other mechanical parts that would be damaged from that type of impact were replaced, including the hood, the windshield (it somehow magically cracked after going to the mechanic while it was waiting for parts), headlights/blinkers/etc., and the front grill/VW symbol.
Also, I'm debating whether or not I should do some performance upgrades on it later on, after I'm certain everything else is working soundly.
Thanks for the help and input regarding my first Volkswagen

well, sux you got the 2.0. In my VW "opinion", the VR6 is what I love, the 1.8t is more for drag racing, or just racing period and fun to drive. The 2.0 is omething I would buy my 16yr old son, first day he gets a license.
They do make supercharger kits for it, and I think turbo, too. I personally wouldn't start off with 2.0; at least with the 1.8t you already have a turbo to start off with.

I figured that the 2.0 was more or less the car that's nice to drive and comfortable rather than a tuner car.
However, I can't really complain, as the car is going to be given to me in about 2-4 months, free of charge. My previous car was a Toyota Celica GT-S 1990. Totalled it on my 18th birthday on the way to pick up my girlfriend [&o]
As far as the price paid for the car, good or bad?

Oh yeah and I kid you not I got the dealer to put brand new pads and rotors all the way around.
with dealers its easy, they want to sell you that car. of course now I'm having a slight electrical problem, but thats VW, I love them
