Default RPM'S

New to the forum and just got myself a 1994 Golf III GL 5 speed. This is probably the first of many questions. Is it normal to travel with the RPM's at 3000? Every other car I've owned usually stayed around 2000 rpm's at cruising speed and around town. Just curious if this was something wrong with mine that can be fixed easily or if it's normal for this year and model. Thanks.[&:]

i also have a 95 golf gl 5 speed and i found that same problem, when i shift, its more towards 2500-3000 rpm, where on other cars you shift around 2000, kind of odd...
