Default 2001 cabrio wobbling?

Hey guys. I have a 01 cabrio that shakes when you accelerate and im now starting to hear a "clunk" when i hit the gas and another "clunk" when i let off of the gas. I'm thinking its the axel... If so is that fairly easy to replace myself? I always do all work myself but never tackled anything to do with an axel. I also see they sell right and left axel assemblies so it could only be one of the right?

Thats a pretty complicated job, but if you want to tackle it i would encourage you to do so. First thing, get a shop manual and learn about the process, find out whats involved. It may require tools and machinery you don't have. Secondly, make sure before you start tearing your car apart that you have diagnosed the problem correctly. There are alot of things that could go clunk in the night, and most decent mechanics won't charge you for taking a look and telling you what they think the problem is. If after taking these steps you want to do it, then do it! I have built up a very repectable tool collection by buying what i need for a job one tool at a time. In my opinion, money spent on tools is an investment, money spent on a mechanic is wasted. Hope this helps.
