I am really at my wits end. My mechanic can't help. Local VW dealership has been reported to VW of America and they sent my back a lot of money, so needless to say I'm not going to them. I am pretty handy and will try anything. Have a code reader but I'm getting crazy codes. P0174 system too lean bank 1. and now Generic code 0000. Now the car will not go into closed loop mode and I can see my fuel gauge going down. I'm currently down from about 32 MPG to between 12-16. Oh My GOD. I have replaced the catalytic (had that code now went away) and the 02 sensor (pre catalytic) have cleaned the MAF and have done a smoke test looking for vacuum leaks to know avail. Please tell me someone can tell me exactly what to check next. My mechanic suggests a new computer module for $1200 ouch. Still sound like a vacuum leak under the front passenger seat when I get on the accelerator, however, would that cause my mileage to go way down. Also why is it using so much fuel if the codes say its running lean??????? 2001 VW Beetle 2.0 gas AVH engine. Bought the car for oldest daughter want to pass it on to youngest, does not look so promising.
