Default 1989 Jetta GL - High Idle and Lurches

I have a 1989 Jetta GL - 5 speed, 90,000 fully serviced miles at authorized VW dealers. I am original owner. Car is exeptionally clean and always runs perfect.

Lately, I have experienced high idleing and recently had a 90,000 mi. check. Timing belt was replaced and Idle stabilizer valve was cleaned to correct the idle problem. Idle problem was in fact correctled, but drove car to Vermont and immediately noticed lurching while accelerating. Brought the car to a Vermont VW dealer and he replaced the distributor cap and rotor and lurching was solved for one day. Next day, lurching and high idle problems are back worse than ever.

Any ideas? - Vermont dealer suggests to replace the idle stabilizer valve to fix the idle problem but what about the lurching while accelerating?
