Hi im new on here

i bought my bug in jan this year and love it to bits, it has been spot on until the last few weeks when i have been stationery in traffic, and the car seems to have a bit of a fit, but this is not all the time. However, in the last week it has cut out after the revs have jumped up then gone too low for it to keep running. I have spoke to a couple of people who have said it could be a number of things but to look at the idle valve which may need cleaning first. i want to try this before takin it to a garage, can anyone give me some help on where to find this and how to get in to clean it?
