Default 66 era VW Engine problems starting

I've got a 66 era engine on an old dune buggy frame. I've replaced the fuel pump, added new carb kit, points, condensor. It starts and runs for a while then dies. Then if I keep cranking on it it shoots gas out the small tube on top of the carb just inside the throat. What is my problem? I've got a temp gas tank rigged up from a lawn mower and I know the fuel is OK. Help!

Clean out the old gas and try fresh gas. Change the fuel filter now and in a few weeks also. When you add the fresh gas also run a good injector cleaner in it as well. Automotive gas is not the cleanest in the world and goes bad after about 6 months. This should solve your problem.
