Default Coolant / Water Pump Problem

Bought a 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan January 2, 2020 from a non Volkswagen dealer. By the end of February 2020 we had to add coolant and again in June 2020 had to add coolant. Took it to an auto repair shop and they said it is leaking from the water pump and that it looked like the water pump had been replaced but they don’t work on Volkswagen water pumps.

Online research has shown me this is a known major problem with the 2011 Tiguan. One site reveals a class action settlement.

Regardless I need it fixed and am wondering what steps I should take. I don’t see a recall. If I get it replaced should I have a factory water pump put on which I read is mostly polymer/plastic or replace it with what this same web site claims is an aluminum water pump? Or is there another suggestion? Thanks!

Got on vw.com chat and was advised to reach out to the claim administrator of a class action settlement. Claim administrator said the deadline to be included had past. So I called Volkswagen. They informed me there is an extended warranty on the water pump - I believe 10 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. My water pump was replaced by a dealer service department for no charge!!
