Default Passat B6 engine light on, no error codes.

So firstly this isn’t my car, I am doing this for a friend with no mechanic skills at all.
His car is a 2006 VW Passat B6 2litre diesel Auto 140bhp model.
His check engine light is on. He asked me (I am not a professional but lets just say know enough have done every job on a car except re-mesh gears and have even done an ECU clone and have the tools etc) to run my diagnostic tool on his car and I did. Weirdly it came up all clear with no errors which surprised me so I did a little digging.
i have found that this car can turn on the engine light for things that it doesn’t log as errors, such as leaking vacuum pipes and sensors (such as the oxy one). I would expect all of the light on no codes faults I have found so far would cause some noticeable deficits (such as rough idle or running, poor power or fuel economy etc), yet my friend says the car is behaving just as it always has.
Anyone got any ideas of things to look out for on the car that would cause a light-on/no errors that would also be unnoticeable to the driver please?

On a 2006 VW Passat B6 2.0 TDI, a check engine light with no stored codes is often caused by minor or intermittent issues like small vacuum leaks, occasional sensor glitches (O2, intake air temp), early DPF or EGR quirks, glow plug or emission system irregularities, or voltage fluctuations. These may not affect drivability. Using a full VCDS scan with live data, checking for vacuum leaks, and monitoring sensor readings while running is the best way to identify the cause.
