Default intermittent problem

My 2003 Passat has been having a problem with occasionally cutting out when slowing down. Also very jumpy when starting from cold for a few mins or a couple of miles!
It has been looked at by 3 garages but fault could not be identified or corrected.
It has had new fuel filter and pump, breather tubes, plugs, etc, but fault persists.
It did a 200plus mile journey yesterday with no probe, but this morn was jumping all over the place! It is a comfortable and usually reliable car so I don't want to get rid.
Any ideas pls?

That isn't easy to diagnose on the web.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.
