Hi,

Can someone help me please as I have this annoying problem on my Passat TDi whereby I lose power when going uphill. It seems as if the turbo/power just goes as soon as you pass 2000 revs in 4th/5th gear.

If you switch off the engine then on again it seems normal. If you do a long stretch with no uphill driving (ie motorway) most of the time it is ok.

I took it to 1st garage and when he put it on the computer he got the following code:

17965 Turbo Pressure Control Limit Exceeded P1557 Intermittent.

He said it is probably the MAF or the boost valave and to replace both would cost around £100 fitted including parts.

I then took this to a 2nd garage and the guy put in on the machione to do a full diagnostic and straightaway he said it was my turbo. (something to do with the vains clogged up). He said it would cost around £550 fitted.

I am not sure if the 2nd garage is trying to rip me off as the turbo does work, just cuts off when going uphill. There is no black some or anything and the car locally is absolutely spot on as there is always that kick if you need it.

Your advice and help would be much appreciated as really I do not wnt to spend too much.
