Default 09 Passat Highline Check Engine Light & Smoke

Hi,

appreciate any help anyone can give, I have a 09 Passat TDI, and it has been smoking intermittently when the engine is idling. So sometimes it'll smoke for a week when sitting in traffic and will run rough while that is happening, then stop and be totally fine for a couple of weeks. I noticed this morning that when I put the key in, before I ignite the engine, the battery light is on as expected but the check engine light is solid orange - though it goes away when I turn the car on. I took it to my mechanic last month and he said the filters hadn't been done by whoever serviced it before I got it, and he hooked the computer up but said it was logging no issues. He replaced the filter and said he thought that might fix it, but since the issue keeps coming back. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what the issue may be? I thought if it were the injectors it would show up on the computer, so was thinking it might be injector seals, but then the check engine light issue made me wonder if it might be something else. Again, if anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful. It will be going to the mechanic soon to get fixed but I'd love to get an idea of how much money I'd need to gather up before I book an appointment...

Thanks.

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Default Welcome to Volkswagen Forum - Rules & Recommendations

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.
