Hi, I just join the vw forum today to get some help regarding a car issue I have. I hope some can help. I have a 2003 VR6 jetta with 71,000 miles. I start hearing a wining noise from the engine bayu when the car is start in old weather. I am not sure if it my belts but my manual said I do not need to replace my engine belts to 100,000 miles. Is this true and if true what can be making that noise and finally is this something serious that I need to take my car into the a shop, thanks.

 

The belts are probably dry. I'm having the same issue, with the V-belt. Everytime i start it in the cold, it makes noise. 100,000 miles, would be if you live somewhere were all year is nice and warm.... Just inspect the belt for any cracks, if it does have some. then is time to replace...
