I recently bought a '97 Jetta with the gas engine. The manuals all talk about changing the belt on the diesels at certain intervals but nothing about the gas. When should this be done? I'm going to also contact the former owner to see if he ever had it done. Thanks for now.

 

The wear limit on the timing belt is 22mm wide.
