I have a 2001 VR6 2.8 Jetta. My ? is does my car have a timing belt or a timing chain?

I believe you have a timing belt. I have a 2000 VR6, and as I understand it, 2000 is the only year that the VR6 engine had the timing chain - not that my local dealer even knew that...
