I want to ajust the timing of this diesel pump of my old Jetta MK2... But principally, i want to know what the use of those small rods on this diesel pump, and how to ajust them...

I love this car, and it's in pretty much good condition do for a Québec climat..... I want to keep as long then i can... I had checked on Youtube and nothin about those rods on the diesel pump....
