Default Jetta Throttle Body

Hello all. First timer. I have a 2010 Jetta With the 2.5 Five cylinder engine. We bought her brand new for my wife. Our youngest is driving it now. He says it is loosing power and wants to stall and the EPC and ENGINE Lights are on. I drove it and couldn’t duplicate the issue. (He has zero car knowledge. I know, I’ve failed him) I bought a scanner tool and it indicates a 25% chance it’s the throttle body. I changed the air filter because that was the second possibility. The Throttle body doesn’t look difficult for me to do at all.
I have 4 questions.
1. Why are the prices from $60.00 to $650.00?
2. Is this a remove and install or is there any programming?
3. Does anyone think it’s something else or have any opinions?
4. Is OEM very important here?

I appreciate any advice from the crowd.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

Thank you for the reply Keithuk. OK, the error codes are p0300, p0302, p0303 & p0304. The scanner I have indicates random misfires & misfires in cylinder 2, 3 & 4. I think I’m going to change all 5 coils and the spark plugs. Anyone have similar issues with these codes and found out it was a different fix or does it sound like the right track?

Were those error codes taken of VAG-COM\VCDS or a generic scanner?

VAG Error Code: 16684/15137/10203/4051/000768


EOBD II Error Code: P0300

Fault Location:
Random/Multiple Cylinder(s) - Misfire Detected/Upper Limit Exceeded/Implausible Signal

Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.

Wiring/Connector(s).
Air Intake System leaking.
Fuel Supply faulty.
Injector(s) faulty.
Ignition Cable(s) and/or Spark Plug(s) faulty.
Ignition coil(s) faulty.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18) stuck/open.
Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40) faulty.
Low compression.

Possible Solutions:
Check/Replace all faulty Wiring/Connector(s).
Check Misfire Recognition.
Check Air Intake System.
Check Fuel Supply.
Check Injector(s) and Injector Sealing.
Check Ignition Cable(s) and Spark Plug(s).
Check Ignition Coil(s).
Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18).
Check Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40).
Check cylinder compressions.

Special Notes:
This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) indicates that one or multiple cylinders are misfiring, but the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) fails to identify the cylinder.

Tech Notes:
The P0300 code means that a cylinder(s) is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks, intake gaskets are common caused of multi-cylinder misfiring. If no leak are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem.

Check/Replace all faulty Wiring/Connector(s).
Do a compression test.
Read Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) 15 if misfire changes location.

I have no idea why but I couldn’t send a reply due to some token thing timing out or whatever. I don’t know. Technology and me don’t jive very well. I’m always the one with some BS issue.
Long story short.
To answer your question. It’s a INNOVA Fix Assist + Repair Solutions 2.
Cylabder 3 had a broken and disintegrated rubber boot inside causing a spark and burning the spark plug. Probably the original parts. I changed all 5 plugs and coils. Runs well now.
