hi guyz. i have a 2000 jetta with 105k and yesterday the 3rd gear in the tranny began to slip and it takes a second for it to grab. the car revs up and it engages pretty hard. i was thinking it could be a transmission solenoid but idk. any suggestions guys? and how much am i lookin at here? it will be much a preciated.

Try Lucas Oil trans anti-slip first. This is a manual trans? If so you'll have to get an 18mm allen socket to remove the filler cap. If it's an auto, I've never talked to anyone who knows where to fill it at.

Hey bagel, just for my benefit how do you change the fluid in an auto trans? I've heard that you have to take it to a dealer and they have some magic tool that somehow measures and checks the condition of the fluid by temperature.

if al it needs is a fluid and filter change why would the 3rd gear be the only one that is slipping...? [sm=headbang.gif]i guess i just want an easyer solution...
i'm too broke for a tranny fluid/filter change.[sm=smiley6.gif]

lol. oh so true. just gonna take it easy for a bit and once i can scrape up enough cash i'll take it in to get done. its an automatic trans. i hate the fact that i can't do it on my own. [sm=smiley7.gif]some bull about needing a "special" pump to pump in the fluid not to mention the super cheap "special synthetic" it requires. thats german engineering for you.
