tranny jerking when going from 2nd to 3rd
2002 vw jetta GLS
hello , i am new to this forum.
Especially in cooler whether, occasionally , when the car is driven first thing in the morning, the car jerks abnormally and violently when the automatic tranny shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear. It does not happen the rest of the day.
I called the dealer about changing the fluid but they said the tranny fluid is a sealed compartment and vw tranny fluid lasts for life and doent need change!
my question:
1. has anybody any comments about the problem. Is it something to worry about?
2. Can the tranny fluid be changed?
I got it used and not sure if it has ever been changed.
Thanka in advance.

RE: tranny jerking when going from 2nd to 3rd
Is it manual or automatic. Any tranny fluid can be changed. Think of it this way....you tranny is a machine, which has gears which cause friction, friction causes heat, heat breaks down lubricants and pretty soon they are no good. I guess I shouldn't change my oil anymore? Cause the engine is sealed? Ha ha I never heard that before.....but the answer to your question is the reason the tranny may jerk hard is because it may going bad. If it's a manual, it maybe your clutch assem, a manual it maybe internals. Does it only do it when it's cold, or anytime??

thanks guys:
tranny is automatic, i will schedule a AT fluid change from another dealer asap.
It does it only in cold whether, that too only once the first time in the morning when the car is out, it rarely does it in hot summers.
