Default Help, 2001 Wolfsburg 1.8T Clunking

Hello All,

I haven't had a very good start to the VW world but I'll try to stay optimistic. I just bought a car yesterday (8/29) and I'm already having problems. I test drove it, took it to the best import mechanic in town for a look-over, and did a carfax, everything was great. Until....

The first day I drive it I hear a fairly loud clunking noise that sounds like its coming from the front drivers side wheel well. After I speed up to about 40-45 and then let off the gas it gets loud, so its mainly when I'm slowing down... but it also seems like the noise is present when I'm speeding up between 60-70.

I also tried putting the car in neutral (its a 5spd) when i'm going about 10 and slowing to a stop, it sounds more like a scraping noise. The car seems to be pulling left.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

sounds like a broken tie rod....get under and check everything!! pull and push all of your front suspension, look for things that might be cracking or loose...struts, tie rods, control arms, ball joints, anything you can think of.
