Question having problems with EPC, anti-slip regulation lights

i have a 2001 Jetta, 1.8 turbo. the EPC and anti-slip regulation light will randomly cut on. this makes my car drive much slower with the RPM'S going crazy, and my brakes won't work very well. whenever the lights go off, my car acts fine. i've taken it to volkswagen, but every time i go up there, it's acting fine. this is getting old, and i really need help. anyone have an idea what's wrong?

It sounds like your trottle body. I would investigate that.
Best of luck to you.

so far, i haven't figured out what's wrong with it. my tranny died and my mechanic has kind of stollen my car. he's had it for 3 months and now i'm having to take legal actions to get it back. so it could possibly be because of the transmission. i also got a letter in the mail from VW stating that there was a defect with the antislip light for the year of my car. so i guess they're going to fix that for me. i'll let you know if i figure it out.

Default epc and asr

Although this is somewhat an old post, I recently had the same issue with my 2001 beetle, 1.8L turbo. This is how I fixed the problem. The middle gear inside the throttle control module was worn. This wear allowed to much play between the servo motor gear and the throttle plate gear. Computer interpreted this as a slip in the drive train. The middle gear does not rotate 360 degrees. Therefore I lifted the gear out of the assembly and dropped it back in place so the worn areas were no longer in play.
