Default 16618 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Limit Exceeded (Overboost Condition)

I own a 2002 VW Jetta TDI 1.9L. While driving today I stepped on the gas to go up a large hill when my turbo seemed to shut off and I ran in limp mode home. I then connected to VAGCOM and found the following fault:
Address 01: Engine Labels: 038-906-012.LBL Part No: 038 906 012 FD Component: 1,9l R4 EDC G000AG 4102 Coding: 00001 Shop #: WSC 00066 3VWSP29M22MXXXXXX VWZ7Z0A3XXXXXX 1 Fault Found: 16618 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Limit Exceeded (Overboost Condition) P0234 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent Readiness: 1 1 0 0 0 After reading a ton online I went to my buddies VW shop and he replaced the Boost Pressure Valve for me. After a thrashing ride around town the turbo shut off again and I lost power. Same fault code came up again. He's ordering a Boost Pressure Sensor right now for tomorrow. What do you guys think? Not sure if it's relevant or not, but I have been running B100 biodiesel for the past 3 years (50/50 -B50) mix in cooler months in Vancouver weather. And advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Default New Beetle has this code

Hi there,
My New Beetle just a few days ago seemed to lose the "boost power" going uphill. I used VAGCOM and got this same code
16618 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Limit Exceeded (Overboost Condition)

I'm wondering if this might be the same thing as you experienced?

Did you replace your Boost Pressure Sensor? Is it working now?

Any advice welcome!

First, make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks.

I've got an 01 new beetle tdi, been trying to figure out this same problem for quite some time. we live up in the mountains and when we come back up the hill, the car goes into the "limp mode" ,wont go above 40 mph. If you pull over, turn off the key, restart the car problem is solved for awhile. Took it to the dealer, said there was no code to read on the diagnostic, so i am looking for answers, anybody?

you need to know the code.... does your check engine light come on? if it doesnt , keep driving until it does and ask him to get the code again.

if you search on tdiclub.com for that code it comes up with a bunch of stuff. its most likely a vac leak or coked up turbo. i would not take your car to the dealer to fix either of those cuz they will def overcharge you and most likely do a ****ty job. and if the turbo needs cleaning they wont do it, they will just replace it.

Any guru want to feel good and get great karma by posting a step by step diagnostic checklist starting with cheapest/easiest??

2002 Jetta TDI (I heard this year and the 2003 are plagued with problems that the 2001 does not have ;()

thanks thanks thanks,
