Default Gear problems

I have an 01 manual Jetta. For the past month it was having trouble shifting into second gear. At first, it would occasionally miss the gear. It wouldn't grind or make noises, it just would never engage the gear. It slowly started getting worse, and got to the point where it was a 50/50 chance it would get into second gear. Yesterday, I was just about home when it suddenly wouldn't shift into any gears at all. My stick shift now feels like there is no gears at all, and it feels like the whole thing is 'nuetral'?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I don't know anything about cars, and am waiting for my mechanic to call me back.

Sounds like a bent clutch fork, your transmission is going to need to be pulled...I would go ahead and get a rebuild/refresh while whoever's in there replacing the fork (probably).
