I have an 06 Jetta 2.5 V-5 Value Edition. I recently observed my "gas cap open" light on and it stays on even after closing the gas cap tight after refueling. I am not sure what the issue is. The vehicle drives fine and I do not smell any gas from anywhere around the vehicle. Any suggestions or anyone experienced this issue?

 

My Jetta recently had this same issue. It was difficult to correct.

The manual has specfic steps, but IIRC you have to first take the cap off. Shut the car off. Then screw on the cap.

Turn the car onto aux power (don't actually start), and it should reset. Then start the car.

It took me a couple tries to get it right.

I'd double check the manual. Theres a page designated right to this issue.
