Default Cooling Problem

Hi i really need some advice ive got a 2003 jetta 1.8t, i bought it last year never had a problem with it until about 3 weeks ago my temp light came on so i refilled my prestone and today i noticed that it is back to min. now i checked if i leaked any but there is no spots on the ground, i noticed that while i drive sometimes i smells prestone. could it be i am burning prestone and if yes is that a big problem?????

Thanks in advance

Check to make sure that your coolant cap is air tight... I know it sounds dumb but that can cause the coolant to evaporate more quickly and cause problems with your car. Make sure you're using the right coolant for our 1.8t engines also. good luck.

did you use the correct kind of coolant? you didn't use green or any "works for all cars"coolant did you?

VW's atleast my 02 GTI takesspecial coolant calledPentosin... I've heard that using the other kinds of coolant will totally gum up your engine.

read your owners manual to check
