Default The car dies when cold at a full stop

When I first start driving the car in the morning the first stop light I come to the car dies. All I have to do to get it working again is to use a hammer to tap on the ground side of the battery. When it dies the clock resets to 12:00 and the mileage counter goes to zero. There are also times when I turn the car off and for no reason at all the clock resets to zero and the mileage counter goes to zero. It seems to be problem with the ground on the car but I have had two different mechanics try to fix it and they found no problems. When I bought the car the fuse box on the battery was melted. I hope someone has an answer for these problems. I am at a loss. Now the newest problem is that the passenger side power mirror just keeps going up. When I turn off the car it goes up for a time then stops. If I jar the car it starts again.

Have you replaced the battery fuse box as these do give a lot of problems? Also brake light switches are bad, replace that.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.
