99 Jetta GLS - Won't Start - Key FOB won't work - No alarm light

Okay...So riddle me this...

My car was being detailed. The guy said that he locked the car (with the button on the key FOB) and went inside at some point. He came out and when he clicked the unlock button, the alarm went off (?) He pressed it again to disable the alarm and finished the detail job. When he was finished, he tried to turn the car on and it wouldn't start.

All electrical comes on. I can hear the fuel pump engage. but literally nothing happens when I turn the key the rest of the way...no sounds, nothing.

At that point he realized that the key FOB wasn't working anymore either. I brought some new batteries over, changed them out...still nothing.

All fuses in the compartment by the driver side door have been checked. The car battery has been checked, disconnected, reconnected...nothing.

Everything was fine before. I could lock/unlock the car with the FOB, the alarm light on the driver door would turn on...
