Default 99 Jetta dies in the wet

1999 2.0 Jetta with approx. 80000 mi. sealed spark plug wires with electrical grease, and the distributor cap w/ scilicone. On wet, an rainy days car will start fine, run a mile or two then die without any warning, or indicator. Got car home, popped the hood with it running an sprayed down everything in the engine compartment with a water bottle, an it jus kept purrin like a kitten. Any insight would be mucho appreciated.

Check the distributor cap for cracks. A cracked distributor cap will cause the starting problem when it's wet out. Cracked insulation on wiring can do the same for turn signals.

replaced wires, plugs, rotor and distributor cap. then a coil pack. all were needed anyway. got into the ecu and noticed some evidence of moisture. cleaned up with a good electronic cleaner and sealed back up with a nice ring of diaelectric grease on the o-ring. she's running like a champ now. thanks
