Default 97 gt stock stereo

Hi there,

I just aquired a 97 GT with a stock stereo. My question is how to get it out of the 'safe' mode which is on the digital display. I turn the volume potentiometer into ON mode and the display lights up. I have tried pressing buttons in different series thinking that there is some code. Any clues as to what direction I should go? There is a remote CD player installed in the back that doesn't power up either.

[ul][*]could it be a fuse?[*]is it toast?[*]am I missing the obvious?[/ul]Thanks.
