Default 2001 Jetta VR6

Hello everyone. I picked up a 2001 Jetta with the VR6. It had an oil leak coming from the timing chain cover. After removing the cover we found that every chain guide was broken, and the chain rubbed a hole in the upper cover. I don't know how the thing even ran, but it did, very well I might add. We now have the transmission out and are replacing the chain and components, but are left with finding an upper cover without spending $400.00 on one. My question to the audieance is will an upper cover from a 1998 VR6 work on a 2001? The only thing I see different is at the top where the valve cover would go. There are 3 "notches" along the top side were as the busted one does not.
