2001 2.0 Thumping Noise when a/c is on

2001 2.0 Thumping Noise when a/c is on
Today all of a sudden, the car started to bog down and make a thumping noise. I turned off the a/c and it stops, then starts back up again when I turn back on the a/c. Any idea's what causing this?
